First external validation of our mdbrain aneurysm module published in AJNR

New study from the University of Bonn shows 100% sensitivity for therapeutically relevant saccular aneurysms larger than 5mm.

According to current studies, about 15% of intracranial aneurysms are initially overlooked. Which was also confirmed by the current study of Nils Lehnen (University of Bonn).

In the published study, mdbrain reliably detected 100% of saccular aneurysms with a therapeutically relevant size of 5mm or larger, without detecting too many false positive cases.

In the following example, a large thrombosed aneurysm was reliably detected by the radiologist (arrow), but the smaller aneurysm on the opposite side was overlooked. mdbrain reliably detected both and color coded as well as framed the aneurysms for better visualization.

In the total test population 54 aneurysms of very heterogeneous size and location were identified based on 191 patients and the overall accuracy was 82.6% (specificity 87.2%; sensitivity 70.4%).

Thus, the system can make an important contribution in everyday clinical routine regarding quality assurance and screening, but also follow-up of previously untreated aneurysms.
